It was Organized in 1883.

It was named after businessman Edward H. Steele, who had pushed for its creation.

NOTE - To get records, Steele County requesters must adhere to several rules. The office is only open between 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. CST from Monday to Friday.
