What are Cass County Arrest Records

Cass county law enforcement agencies document the series of events following arrests for alleged criminal offenses. Typically, an arrest record is a detailed report pertaining to the nature of offense, interrogation, prosecution charges, detentions, bails, and other arrest records.

Crime Numbers

The Bureau of Criminal Investigation Division of the Attorney General’s Office publishes crime data and statistics reports for the state of North Dakota. Its latest reports are for 2018. During that year, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office reported no murder, 8 rapes, 1 robbery, and 9 aggravated assaults. The Office also recorded 53 burglaries, 74 larceny-thefts, 17 motor vehicle thefts, and no record of arson.

A five-year comparative report from 2014 to 2018 shows that murder and robbery rates remained the same, while rape rate increased by 300% and aggravated assault rate dropped by 18.1%. Also, in the same period, burglary and larceny-theft rates increased by 12.8% and 2.8% respectively. However, motor vehicle theft rate dropped by 22.7%, while arson recorded no change in rate.

Criminal Records

The Criminal Record Section of the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation provides statewide criminal history record information. The Bureau requires requesters of this record to complete and submit a Request for Criminal History Record Information Form. Full names including aliases, date of birth, social security number or fingerprints, and current address of the subject of the record must be provided. Call the Cass County Sheriff Office at (701) 241-5800 to schedule an appointment for fingerprint services.

Each criminal history record costs $15, payable by check or money order made out to the North Dakota Attorney General. A signed Personal Authorization Form must accompany the request for criminal history record information if current address is not provided.

The Cass County Sheriff Office provides incident and accident reports of events that occurred in Cass County. To obtain any of these police reports, visit the Sheriff’s office located at:

Also, residents of the City of Fargo, the county seat can obtain incident and accident reports from the Fargo Police Department Records Bureau. An incident report costs 25 cents per page. The office charges $25 per hour when typing a long report.

Accident reports can only be requested by a party to the incident or by an insurance company. The department charges $7 for a complete accident report. Credit and debit cards are accepted for payment. There is no extra cost for the certification of the accident report.

Vital Records

The Cass County District Court is the custodian of divorce records for Cass County. To order copies of divorce decrees, visit the Clerk of District Court at the courthouse address provided above.

The Cass County Treasurer’s Office maintains marriage records for the County. Applicants can obtain certified copies of the marriage license that was obtained from Cass County. When requesting, visit the Cass County North Dakota Website to complete and submit an online request form. An officer from the Treasurer’s Office will call within 1-2 business days of receiving the request, to obtain credit card payment. The first certified copy costs $10, while each additional copy requested at the same time is $5.

The Vital Records Division of the North Dakota Department of Health issues certified copies of birth and death records for all the counties in the state. The division only issues these certificates to the subject of the records, identified relatives or a legal representative.

To obtain birth and death certificates for Cass County, start by printing and completing a Request for Certified Copy of a Birth Record or a Request for Certified Copy of a Death Record. A birth certificate costs $15 each. The first copy of a death certificate is $15, while each additional copy requested at the same time costs $10. Credit/Debit card, check, or money order payable to North Dakota Department of Health is accepted for payment. A copy of an Acceptable Form of Identification is required to process each copy request.

Are Property Records Open to the Public in Cass County

Cass County property records are open to the public members. In compliance with the North Dakota Open Records Law, county residents and non-residents have the right to request, view, and obtain public records, such as property records. Interested persons can obtain copies of Cass County property records from the custodian of the public document.

Where and How to Find Property Records in Cass County

The Cass County Assessor’s Office is the custodian of real property records generated within the county. As the custodian of property records in the county, the County Assessor’s Office is responsible for issuing copies of property records to interested public members.
