It was Organized in 1885.
It was named for Ezra B. Eddy, a Fargo, North Dakota banker who had died a few weeks earlier.

NOTE - If a requester wants to obtain records face-to-face, they must adhere to several rules in Eddy County. The office is open between 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m and 12:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. CST from Monday to Friday. In Eddy County, some form of photo ID is needed to get records.
